Dios, patria y libertad

Any guesses as to what country’s flag this is? Or who’s motto this is?

Well if you’re like me you don’t recognize it. But this little country has already started taking root in our hearts and over the next 4 years I know we will come to love it.

We have officially been assigned to Ecuador!!

Ecuador is a small country on the west coast of South America with a population of about 15.2 million people. Many people are familiar with Ecuador because of the Galápagos Islands which lie off the coast and are a popular tourist attraction.

The history of MAF in Ecuador is extremely rich and we are so honored to be a part of this program. A good place to start with learning the background of the people and organization we will be serving would be to watch the movie End of the Spear or Beyond the Gates of Splendor or read the book Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliott. Although much has changed since the time the events in these movies took place, much remains the same and there is still a lot of work to be done.

We will be at the base in Shell where the program started with Nate Saint in 1946. There are two other American families from MAF at that base. There is also a mission school and there seems to be a fairly large expat community.

There are still a lot of logistics to be worked out so we don’t have a ton of info at this point but, as always, we’ll keep you posted! 😊

Have any of you been to Ecuador? We’d love to hear about it! Leave a comment below!

Until next time!

PS. The End of the Spear has always been special to us bc we watched it a week before we started dating. But I had no clue it was MAF!
